You can visit 6 different monasteries, but you can also choose which one to visit. The views are outstanding, especially with the monasteries in sight. Never skip this when traveling through Greece.

Eat delicious local food

Greek food is an international delight, and when travelling through this country, you will have the opportunity to taste a lot of it! Many people know gyros, souvlaki, moussaka, feta, and tzatziki (which are all great), but there is so much more. Often, there are local dishes on menus I have never heard of but that are very tasteful. Some other good dishes are dolmadakia, feta me meli, galaktoboureko, keftethes, loukoumades, spanikopita, and yogurt with honey. Also, fresh fish is very common in this country. Enjoy these delights when in Greece.

Admire the monument of Leonidas

The monument of Leonidas near Thermopylae is a nice statue to visit when in Greece. It is on the route from Meteora to Athens and a perfect place to stop. You can do a small hike up the hill. Have some dinner on the coast of Thermopylae at a nice Greek restaurant as well, and enjoy the scenery.

Enjoy the island vibes at Aegina

The island of Aegina is very easily reached by ferry (around €10-20 depending on the time of the round trip) and worth visiting. You can easily do this as a day trip from Athens. There are some good activities to do, like:

  • Take a quad to see the island (normally not a big fan, but here is perfect transport)
  • Eat some fresh fish from the sea (see picture above)
  • Have some pistachios, as this is the island it originated from, and they taste better than normal.
  • See Aegina old town
  • See the old ruin of Afaia
  • Find the biggest church in Greece, called Agios Nektarios
  • Enjoy the beach

Things I have not done, but can be interesting

Unfortunately, I only saw a few highlights of this country, so there are many many more things to see, like the Olympus and the famous islands. I don't know many things about other places. However, the sights listed above are fantastic and worth visiting.
