6 Lovely things to do in Brașov
Brașov is the centre of tourism in Romania and is a good base to go to different great sights in the country. Besides, it is a great village to stroll around and enjoy the great scenery. When travelling through Romania or only Transylvania, it is impossible not to come across Brașov. Here are the best things to do in this lovely town:
Black Church
The Black Church is one of the eye-catchers in Brașov. It is lovely to go and take a look inside. The church was built in 1476, and it has been renovated a couple of times. You can see it from almost every angle of the town, and it is an important building in the skyline of the city. It costs 4 lei to enter the church.
Price: 4 lei
Tourist occurrence: Very low
How much time needed: 15 minutes
Piata Sfatului
Want to see the main square of Brașov? This is the place to go! From here, you can see every sight of the city, and on the square, you will find the beautiful Town Hall. Enjoy the gorgeous houses and the restaurants and bars around them. It is a fantastic square, and strolling around is very special with the great views, including the mountains.
Tourist occurrence: Medium
How much time needed: To stroll around 15 minutes is sufficient, but with restaurants and bars 3 hours seems more adequate.
Don't eat to much, before you enter Strada Sforii
It is one of the narrowest streets in the world, and it is absolutely fun to walk through. Enjoy the graffiti, and I hope there won't be any passengers from the other side. The width is between 111 and 135 cm. This is a fun way to pass in Brașov.
Tourist occurrence: Low
How much time needed: 15 minutes
Enjoy the views from the Black and White towers
The Towers may not be the best, but the views from the Black (see picture) and White Tower are the best. The perfect height to see the beautiful city centre. You have to walk up for 10 minutes, and it is very worth going up. This was my favorite thing to do in Brașov.
Tourist occurrence: Low
How much time needed: 1-1.5 hours
Wander through the beautiful centre
The beautiful stones, the cute houses, the fantastic churches, and the tasteful restaurants make the city of Brașov a unique village to walk around. There are many cute streets and places to visit. From everywhere, you can also enjoy the view of the mountains and try to find the 'Brașov' sign.
Tourist occurrence: High
How much time needed: Half a day - Full day
Hike up to the Brașov sign
The 'Brașov' sign can be seen throughout the whole city, and you can stand right next to it! That is a win in comparison to Hollywood, huh? The view is amazing up there. There are two ways to get up there. There is a cable car, which takes a couple of minutes, or you can hike up there, which takes one hour to get up. I would recommend doing it one way up and the other way down. Take care if there is snow or ice (even when there is no snow in the centre), I would not recommend going hiking because it is very slippery.
Tourist occurrence: Medium
How much time needed: depends on how you want to go up there, but if you do one way hike and one way cable car 1-1.5 hours.
Day trips from Brașov
- Bran Castle - The Dracula residence
- Sinaia to visit Peleș and Pelişor
- Go to a bear hide or walk in Piatra Craiului - I would recommend staying a couple of days in this area instead of a day trip.
- Rasnov citadel and Valea Cetății cave
